IN RESPECT OF THE DEVELOPMENT OF AN
INTEGRATED TICKETING SYSTEM FOR
PUBLIC PASSENGER SERVICES IN THE
SYDNEY METROPOLITAN AREA

BACKGROUND:

The PTA is a body corporate established on 1st July 1996 following amendments to the Transport Administration Act 1988. It comprises representatives of virtually all providers of public transport in NSW including the State Rail Authority ("SRA"), the State Transit Authority ("STA"), Sydney Light Rail ("SLR"), private sector bus and ferry operators and the Department of Transport.

The function of the PTA is to advise the Minister for Transport on any matter relating to the development, co-ordination and regulation of public passenger services throughout New South Wales. "Public passenger services" means the carriage of passengers for a fare or other consideration by motor vehicle, vessel or train.
