Code of Conduct

State Transit is committed to ethical conduct and fair dealing and this is reflected in its Code of Conduct. The Code sets the standard of behaviour expected of employees and provides the necessary guidance to assist employees to be responsive to the needs of customers and State Transit. The Code has been distributed to all employees and is distributed to new employees and part of the induction package.

Key areas covered by the Code include customer service, accountability, appropriate behaviour, corrupt conduct, conflict of interest and what to do about gifts.

Guarantee of Service

State Transit has renewed its commitment to raise performance standards - new and improved standards of performance on buses and ferries in Sydney and Newcastle.

The commitment to customer service is supported by six main aims:-
  • To ensure that service delivered reflects the travel needs of customers.
  • To operate buses and ferries with excellent safety standards for the benefit of passengers, staff, the general public and their property.
  • To provide bus services that meet high standards of frequency, timeliness, reliability and cleanliness.
  • To provide customers with complete, easily understood and up-to-date service information.
  • To develop a reputation for customer service through polite, courteous and helpful staff.
  • To make services more accessible for all passengers. State Transit's Guarantee of Service is published on its Internet Home Page, including details of what to expect from bus and ferry services, how to use the services, contact details and how to make suggestions, commendations or complaints.

Changes in Fares

Under section 18(4)of the Independent Pricing and Regulatory Tribunal Act, State Transit is required, where there has been a determination by the Independent Pricing and Regulatory Tribunal, to include in its annual report particulars of how any such determination has been implemented. A change in State Transit's fare scale was gazetted in July 1996, and implemented from 7 July 1996. All increases in fares complied with the maximum prices determined by the Independent Pricing & Regulatory Tribunal. The determinations were as follows:

Single ride bus and ferry tickets There will be no increase in single ride bus fares with the exception of 22-27 sections which will increase by 20 cents. Single ride ferry fares will increase by between 20 and 40 cents with the exception of the Inner Harbour Zone 1 fare which will remain unchanged. The Tribunal endorses the introduction of the Inner Harbour Zone 2 fare which applies to journeys over 10km. Single ride 22-27 section bus fare increased by 20 cents. All other single ride bus fares remained unchanged. The fare for the Inner Harbour Ferry Zone 1 did not increase. Increases for all other single ferry fares ranged from 20 cents to 40 cents. The Inner Harbour Zone 2 fare was set at $3.00 which was in line with the Tribunal's recommendation.
TravelTens and FerryTens With the exception of the 22-27 sections TravelTen which is to remain unchanged, the maximum price of TravelTens may increase by no more than 5%. Increases for FerryTens may range from 20 cents for the Inner Harbour Zone 1 Ticket to $2.00 for the Manly Ferry, Manly JetCat, Rydalmere & Parramatta Services. TravelTen increases ranged from 40 cents to $1.60, which was within the 5% cap. The price of the 22-27 section TravelTen remained unchanged. FerryTen increases ranged from 20 cents to $2.00.
TravelPasses Maximum price for Bus/Ferry and Bus only TravelPasses may increase by $1.00 or 5% whichever is greater. Rail/Bus/Ferry TravelPasses may increase by $1.00.

Bus/Ferry and Bus only TravelPass increases ranged from $1.00 to $1.70 which is within the cap. All Rail/Bus/Ferry TravelPasses increased by $1.00.

BusTripper The maximum price of the BusTripper ticket will remain at $7.80. The price of the BusTripper ticket remained unchanged at $7.80.
Bus/Ferry DayPass The maximum price of the Bus/Ferry DayPass ticket will remain at $12.00. The price of the Bus/Ferry DayPass ticket remained unchanged at $12.00
Sydney Pass The maximum price for Sydney Pass tickets may increase by 10%. This change is to take effect on 1 April 1997. The price of all Sydney Pass tickets increased by 10% on 1 April 1997.
Time-based tickets - Newcastle The Tribunal endorses State Transit's proposal to introduce a time-based fare structure in Newcastle from January 1997. The maximum fare structure is set out below:

All Day $6.00
TimeTen 1 Hour $17.00

State Transit introduced time-based tickets in Newcastle on 6 January 1997. The fare structure complied with the Tribunal's recommendations.
