CALL FOR EXPRESSIONS OF INTEREST

IN RESPECT OF THE DEVELOPMENT OF AN
INTEGRATED TICKETING SYSTEM FOR
PUBLIC PASSENGER SERVICES IN THE
SYDNEY METROPOLITAN AREA

RESPONSES TO CALL FOR EXPRESSIONS OF INTEREST:

Responses to this call for expressions of interest should:

1. Provide recommended solutions and a suggested transition path for integrating smart card ticketing solutions utilising, where practical, existing electronic ticketing hardware and software, which will provide for electronic ticketing capability on all transport modes;

2. Identify the minimum system and support requirements for the early implementation. This should include an indicative costing for the base system for private operators;

3. Indicate how the recommended option(s) could be introduced without the need to involve existing transport providers in significant outlays of capital;

4. Demonstrate how the recommended option(s) could be integrated with existing ticketing technologies and indicate the additional investment required;

5. Explain how the above approach can expand to a strategy to provide a fully integrated transport ticketing platform for Sydney, Newcastle and Wollongong;

6. Confirm a preparedness for a long term commitment to the PTA in respect of the provision of an integrated ticketing system for public passenger services in NSW, which continues to meet the evolving needs of passengers and service providers;

7. Canvass a range of innovative approaches in relation to:

  • funding of a total integrated ticketing system (such as user transaction fees, purchase schemes, leasing and buy-back arrangements);
  • the provision of the processing environment required by the integrated ticketing system;
  • the maintenance of the environment required in the integrated ticketing system.
  • where requested by participating operators, the provision of revenue allocation systems
